Mary’s MEALs

“I have had the pleasure of working with Pippa through her amazing support of Mary's Meals. When working for The Dining Club Group, she created and implemented an amazing fundraising campaign to build school kitchens in Malawi. She is friendly, passionate and always willing to help. I enjoy working with her.”

in 2012 tastecard, the UK’s largest diners’ club announced Mary’s Meals as their chosen charity, and over the first 24 months raised £113,545.00 in donations. Thanks to these donations, Mary’s Meals have built a kitchen and set up a new feeding programme at Ntungulutsi Primary School in Malawi, providing daily meals to over 1900 pupils. In the four years that followed, and to date, Mary’s Meals will build another kitchen, NKula Primary School and set up a further feeding program in Malawi that feeds over 4000 children in Malawi every year using tastecard’s donation.

Mary’s Meals vision is that every child should receive one daily meal in their place of education – whether their classroom happens to be in a government building or under a tree.

The charity encourages impoverished children into school by providing a nutritious daily meal in a place of education. As part of its ongoing partnership with the charity, the funds donated by tastecard will help to transform the lives of thousands of hungry children in Malawi, by covering the annual cost of providing the daily meals.

Ntungulutsi Primary School is one of the feeding kitchens that tastecard donation funds. Every 93p in every £1 donated is spent on food and activities.

members of UK diners’ club tastecard have raised £71,595 (2016) to donate to school feeding charity Mary’s Meals.

the donation was pledged through a promotional campaign that promised a £5 donation to Mary’s Meals for every 90-day tastecard trial purchased. More than 14,300 trials were sold during the campaign, which brings the running total of tastecard’s support to £240,000 over four years (2012-16).

“We’re so grateful for the ongoing support from tastecard and the wonderful difference being made, thanks to generous members”.

“it’s heartening to see how many people are keen to share what they have with others who lack the basic things in life. I’ve seen first-hand the difference that a daily mug of porridge makes to hungry children in Malawi – it makes them happy and keeps them healthy, and it also allows them to learn.

“thanks to tastecard and its members, yet more children will enjoy Mary’s Meals and the opportunities that a daily meal can bring”.

Mary’s Meals has a simple idea that works: It provides impoverished children with one nutritious daily meal in a place of education. With Mary’s Meals, children are no longer forced to work, beg or forage for food just to survive.

children can now go to school and gain the education that offers the single greatest hope of escaping poverty in later life.

Nkula is another school in Malawi, receiving tastecard donations for support.

in 2013, tastecard set an ambitious target, to be able to donate £40,000 to Mary’s Meals by the end of the campaign. tastecard and Mary’s Meals were thrilled by the overwhelming support their members showed to the campaign, and thanks to their help they donated an incredible £60,545 to Mary’s Meals.

Members of UK diners’ club tastecard have since raised another £71,595 to donate to build and support four more school feeding charity Mary’s Meals.

“We are absolutely blown away by the success of this year’s fundraising campaign! tastecard’s support of Mary’s Meals is now into its second year and we are incredibly grateful for this tremendous level of support”

“when you consider that Mary’s Meals can feed a hungry child for an entire school year for just £10.70, it isn’t difficult to imagine the life-changing impact this donation will make in the communities in which we work.

whilst we now work in 16 countries on 5 continents, feeding over 790,000 every school day, it is our intention to use tastecard’s donation to provide for more children in two key programme countries, Malawi and Liberia, with a nutritious daily meal in school, through our Sponsor a School campaign.

the food Mary’s Meals provides means children don’t have to spend their days begging or working in order to survive – they can come to school, gain an education and work towards a future free from poverty. Through this donation, tastecard and its cardholders are giving thousands of children hope for a better tomorrow. Thank you so much to all who contributed to this amazing campaign!”
